Oh yes, I remember that interview. This is when they were promoting that dreadful movie Red Tails. There was a discussion about the lack of black women in that movie by mostly black women of course.

Don’t ignore your bullshit indicator. This man says the right things but is smarmy as hell.
I disagree because most of the white actors you named were not trained in our best dramatic schools. As with all things, Black people have to be better and most of the top black actors are true thespians while the white actors are just high school dropouts.
Hmm and yet something about his responses don’t quite sit right.
You hit on why I never root for him. I think this interview was during “Red Tails” which I remember reading cut out all the scenes with Black actresses. Let’s face it, ‘all skin folk ain’t kinfolk’. There is a contingent of Black people (mostly men) who only want White acceptance. Oyelowo and Ejiofor seem like that…
Um. I was thinking the same thing. I have trouble believing he couldn’t get different financing to make the picture he wanted to make - preferably Nina with India Arie. He is a great actor but ....um...I have an issue of faith with his....actions.
Yeah, when people criticized the casting in Selma since it’s a very Black American story and she hired Black Brits to play the main roles, she threw that out there. Even though most of the top Black American actors have theater training at the Best drama programs in the US.
There’s always a “reason,” isn’t there? He’s been married to his white wife for like 20 years, and interracial relationships are almost presented to young Black people as the norm and something to strive for in many parts of England.
Yeah, honestly this reads like a lot of excuses for supporting colorism with the Nina biopic. And bringing up Forrest Whitaker like people ignored that instead of the fact that folks had no idea (I certainly didn’t) is disingenuous at best.
I always root for Black people in everything. That said, I don’t trust this man because he is not here for Black women. He had an interview maybe 5 years ago where he and Terrance Howard discussed how great white women are and how being with them represents freedom and progress or some such shit. That’s the interview…
Yeah..basically half of the list of movies I want to watch with my kids is getting axed (Batman series, Cool Runnings, Apollo 13 etc).
Congrats on that reach.
Objection overruled.
Yeah, you’re not shaming her for having sex with dudes. You’re shaming her for the shameful dude she had sex with.
You felt it was fake?
I was in awe of Karamo’s patience. And while the cop even PARTICIPATING in the conversation and being calm about it is better than nothing, I still did not like that guy. And I didn’t like that episode. A cold open where Karamo gets pulled over without his license by a white cop in the middle of Georgia? So tone deaf.
I don’t think the conversation itself was fake, but the fact that the producers set Karamo up in the situation of the buddy policy guy pulling them over whilst he was driving was disgusting. It almost turned me off the show itself, but that goddamn adorable Tan keeps pulling me back.
