I'm happy with never owning the "new best ever" car, as long as the one I have is a manual. I'm not good enough of a driver to wring every second out of either, but I know without a doubt I'll enjoy a manual more.

I agree. Another thing relevant to engineering (rather than performance as much) would be output / engine weight.

Who cares what the displacement is. I'll bet the fuel economy is similar and the emissions are probably within the same ballpark as well. Meanwhile, the price on the Viper is significantly less.
