I think that a lot of people in this thread would benefit from watching this video:

"How to Tell Someone They Sound Racist."

(It's only 3 minutes long, but it makes its points rather well.)

I'm an "actual black human being" as well and my jaw dropped when McConaughey disrespected his fellow nominees like that.

In my world, it's not uncommon for grown men of the same age to address each other as "Mr.," or even people younger than them, at least in a certain context, such as when two other peers were just addressed as "Mr."

If you go to the doctor and he or she is younger than you, do you call them by their first name upon

Here's the thing... McConaughey is from Texas. He is intimately familiar with the tradition of disrespecting black adults by calling them by their first names in contexts in which people would typically be called by their last names. (That's not to say that tradition was ever limited to the South, but arguably it

I know... presumably he knew that he was going to acknowledge his fellow nominees if he won, he could have at least bothered to learn their names.

It's not like he needed to learn how to pronounce names of the heads of state of every nation in the world, he had to master two fellow actors' names, something that he

goodnight, everyone. ending with this:

Don't worry, Lupita & "12 years" will prevail at the Oscars!

Because Ron Howard has always been classy.

Did he just angry fart?

First, would never argue that 12 Years a Slave was anything less than amazing.

I just watched it. I don't think he was deliberately racist, I just think he didn't know how to pronounce their last names. To me that is still some hidden prejudice/privilege shit because he didn't feel it was important to learn his own peers' names, which are outwardly "black".

That's what gets me - despite what people claim ("oh, I didn't expect to win, I have no speech ready!"), I'm thinking he had that planned, so...why not learn how to say everyone's name? Not that "Mr. Elba" is exactly taxing, but I'll give him "Ejiofor".

Yup!

The video is here, at 1:46. A still doesn't really convey just how pissed he looks, and I don't know how to make a .gif. But boy, he seems very displeased and irritated at his loss.

Is this the one?

I fucking LOVE Liam Neeson

and stereotypes of black people in film and tv don't precipitate actions like stop and frisk? or general fear and hatred of blacks? and hollywood not hiring black actors and presenting more diverse representations of them does not affect the self esteem and treatment of blacks? and hollywood repeatedly ignoring art

first thing, the part about the nail polish is from the author of the piece, which if you'd read, maybe you'd have seen (too much precious work time, as you say)? and the reason i directed you to the comments below, of which there are well over 20 at this point, is so you could see that it goes deeper than just
