Those are interesting and valuable distinctions. Thanks!

Thank you! Did these people ever learn about logical fallacies and non-sequiturs?!
If you can get in trouble for following the directions of your parole authority in good faith then we are all fucked and can be sent to jail at any time.
Hrm, get's very hairy there. She was ordered by the court to follow the directions of her parole authority. If they give directions, incorrect or not, and she followed those directions in good faith, she's not technically liable if those directions are incorrect, especially for something as innocuous as shopping.
It would help if she weren't also Existing While Black. That's a huge disadvantage, right there.
The hairs, you are splitting them.
Former legal assistant here: It can be, and if true, something they can seek bar actions against. That said, at the very least, if true it's WASTING THE JUDGE'S TIME. Which REALLY pisses off some judges. You do not want to piss of a Judge, especially if you are an attorney who routinely practices before them.
Well, at least she wasn't speeding, carrying a concealed weapon, accused of domestic abuse by her ex, father-in-law and current domestic partner, or else she'd be running around free like George Zimmerman. Wait. What?
If the prosecutor knowingly filed a frivolous motion, and withheld information that they knew would expose its frivolity, that's got to be sanctionable, right?
Just admit you don't understand how the word similar was used in this context. Stand your ground is based on self defense, therefore the author correctly used the word "similar" to show the "similarities" btn the two defense strategies.
Well, this is a pretty hefty accusation to throw at a prosecutor if they didn't actually have the evidence to back it up. I'm inclined to believe them.
Actually, they are similar defenses, if you understand that similar doesn't mean "exactly the same". "Stand Your Ground" is a self-defense law.
Yes, but they also have their priorities and "catching criminals that threaten the safety of the public" is not one of them
Did you read the article you just commented on? Because the author did not say that Stand Your Ground was used. You did. Go back to Fox and Friends.
Did you read the story? Did it say that GZ used stand your ground?
This situation makes me so depressed. This woman is a productive member of society. She had a doctorate. But to the toothless idiots in my native Florida, she's just another dangerous criminal. It took the jury 11 minutes to decide to send her to prison for the rest of her life. George Zimmerman, confirmed…
Love her. She is my favorite correspondent on TDS, after John Oliver anyway but since he's no longer there SHE'S #1! Wooo!
She's better than Olivia Munn ever was.
I know she's already gone places, but this lady is going places. She is brilliant and funny.
