Yes, we’re in Cary with no HOA.  First time around when we moved here it was hard to get our realtor to understand that HOA was not something that we wanted to deal with.  It significantly restricts your range of available house here though.

I used to live in a place where the HOA mandated that there were only 2 specific models of outdoor wall sconces you could have.

To this day, the homeowners I rented from/lived with have not replaced the broken one as a protest. Since its one of the approved models, the HOA can’t complain
