Edit: Ironically, this probably costs more than $2k.

Car makers can easily sell many more EVs, if they design them properly - its not like Tesla owns a monopoly on design of sleek, desirable electric cars.

I wish more people in the US would see this. While certainly cars like the F-150 and Camry will be able to have custom engines for the US-market most won’t. Fuel economy/electrification is here to stay.

Are you having a hard time finding a pick up truck or a performance vehicle to buy? Your choice isn’t being limited by the government, its limited by what manufacturers find profitable.

It’s more disappointing that the manufacturers are still opposed to this when the US targets (when converted to the same test and measure) do not represent the most stringent target that has already been agreed. They will have the technology.

You understand CAFE standards have been in place since 1975, right? It didn’t start with President Obama, and the automakers and car buyers have been operating in this environment for 40 years now.

their desire to ‘fight back’ is not because automakers are soulless polluting dick heads, but in very real terms, the very existence of their respective companies (and respective jobs) is on the line - and their concerns should not be dismissed with the mantra simpletons trot out between bong hits that “big

Counterpoint: there are many situations where cars can be developed that not only meet the regulations, but can also be fun! Case in point: there will be a hybrid mustang before 2025. Without these regulations, such a car would certainly never have existed. And to boot, I’m sure there will still be a V8 available at

How is 8 YEARS of research “last minute”??? For all of these 8 years automakers have been complaining while also proving that the technology is mature enough to do this. By the time 2025 roles around and the US standard is 101g/km of CO2, it will be 117g/km in China and 100g/km in the EU. Automakers will have to do it

That’s President Obama.

I work for an automaker, and although it does make things more difficult for us OEM’s, I’m at least ideologically in favor of the federal structure of emissions/MPG regulations. I think it makes sense for the government to push the industry towards emissions reductions that improve air quality for everyone and help

Dear Ms. Bergquist:

This is part of the reason that American car makers went busto the first time, and will be the leading reason they go busto again.

i worked in landscaping for 2 years i have a huge hate for the little 2 strokes. they are horrible to breath around compared to the 4 stroke weed wackers

Well, first off, teh Expedition is a Ford product.

American car makers went busto because they couldn’t compete against foreign companies in America. Last time I checked, foreign automakers are also subject to American laws when they want to sell in America.

““If EPA finalizes its greenhouse gas rules for autos just days before the inauguration—and there are signals that such an announcement is imminent—it is a disappointing development,’’ Gloria Bergquist, the spokeswoman for the Alliance of Automobile Manufacturers, told Bloomberg.””

I ran my car into a mall but I didn’t hit anyone, no harm no foul.
