My experience of newish mothers is that their whole lives can sometimes revolve around their child and the work of raising the child. It seems like a form of narcissism in which the world is run through the prism of the child and the experiences of that child. That is how this woman's foolish little screed strikes

The weirdest part of his open letter was the stuff about wanting to live on a farm. It's like he wrote the whole thing on E — which might explain the navel-gazing tmi-ness of it all.

@DarlingBecky: Initially, based only on this, I felt the same way. But his column does go on; and her other points are very well taken. Mostly, I felt, why make this public?

@seejanerum: She had a hard time finding appropriate men who were interested in a relationship; that was part of her account and also part of her account was that she just found herself open to this particular relationship.

@seejanerum: Saying it doesn't make sense denies the truth of this woman's experience. And it is certainly the case that lots of women complain about the lack of available men as they age, so I'm not sure what you mean when you say the male pool isn't smaller.

@biancajames: That was exactly my thought. As I understand it, it wasn't really invented until the 80's. It was made illegal shortly after it started to be used in the mid-80's.

I genuinely don't like defending Ms. Hasselbeck, but she may not be totally off base. One of my mother's best friends got divorced in her 50's and after about 5-6 years of being single, entered into a long-term relationship with a woman. She said she was not a lesbian who had been denying her sexual orientation all

I refer fondly to my "slut phase" that came on after the desolation of a divorce and my mother's death. It was like a second, more mature adolescence and I have no regrets about it at all.

@FrabjousDay: Or it could be the saving of him. He's actually the more loving parent.

@clevernamehere: Those are laudable; they are not intellectual (with the possible exception of Ethan Hawke). And a few examples doesn't change the reality that for the most part actors are cogs in an image machine, and he, refreshingly is not.

@FrabjousDay: I was hoping Henry'd had a heart attack in the car in the garage and Betty couldn't get him off her. I don't like Betty one little bit.

He's about ten million times more interesting and intellectually engaged than virtually every other Hollywood actor out there. And instread of surrounding himself with the artificial apparatus of fame — where everything is sanitized and masssaged by pr reps — he's TRYING things and doing them, however imperfectly.

@whenyouweremine: I think it feels even more staged on this show because they are really dreadful actors. I find it unwatchable.

@rd2uk: I meant that this isn't a thread about France, it's about middle eastern countries — and Sarkozy is a side issue to what is being raised here.

@rd2uk: When did Sarkozy get into this? My question is whether any of these nations that require it can really said to be places where women have a prayer of equality, or even basic damn rights.

@n.vavere: We need Bourdain on this, stat!

@Grilly Chee: Yes, although in Mrs. Jenner's case, the lack of maturity also applies.

@haguenite: My standard is would I want to see my 14 year old niece in this get-up and picture? The answer for me clearly is no. It hurts my heart to see girls pushed to grow up too fast.

Kris Jenner should just change her title from Momager to Pimp.
