She is the least preachy Christian in the world. I am a bit surprised anyone would have a problem with her, as she has always been very open about her flaws and issues and talks about her faith as having been important to saving her (and as a very improbable thing for her) without insisting — at all— that others

@DailyLattes: Take it that you're an amazing catch and therefore as a compliment?

@Dakota_55: No need to feel guilty. She's not taking the hint; that's her problem, not yours!

@rah29: I have a friend that I wax and wane with who is completely unwilling to demand from herself the same consideration that she demands from others. We have periodic hiatuses because of it. And yet, she *is* a good friend. Hence, my decision to take unspoken time outs.

@rah29: Yes, also very true. Politely withdrawing is harder when you get bombarded with "why haven't you called's."

@Dakota_55: And you can still be friends with other people without ending the bad friendship in any official way. It's much harder (and wrong, of course) to start flirting with or sleeping with other guys when you haven't broken up with the current one!

@irishbreakfast: Honey, I read the book when it came out and won the Princeton thesis prize for writing about the theory. I'm just calling out a bunch of armchair professors on their hypocricy.

I adhere to the "just withdraw" school of friendships that don't seem to be working. If there is something worth salvaging, it isn't ruined, and if there isn't, the friendship just dissolves naturally (usually).

@eri401: Said wrote about discourse as a means of conveying a particular agenda — it has been applied broadly and need not be limited in the way you suggest. And yes I am "blatently ignoring the power differential" because that is not necessary to a discussion of the way agendas are coded into discourse — as they

@linds_3: The same critique could be levelled at how this site approaches Jessica Simpson. The poster has a political agenda and an evident bias against Ms. Simpson which I think can be distorting, too. She is for this site a type of "Other" woman who it is okay to slag off on, pretty much nonstop.

I know it's immature of me, but I always snicker when I hear Pujols's name (it's pronounced poo-holes). hehehehe.

I happily am not on Twitter and follow no one (well, I do look at Roger Ebert's page) and thus can rely on others (i.e. Jezebel) to let me know when another celeb has said something idiotic.

@applejuice: I think there's no way to do that. Hulu is the exclusive domain of NBC clips.

@pissiechrissie: I'm not really a fan of her music; I'm just a fan of women who are in charge of themselves who say sometimes wise and brave things. Her outspoken support of the gay community comes to mind. And I'm all for free floating debates; I just get bothered sometimes when women tear their fellow women down.

This entire show is like a bad first run-through. It feels like they're just winging it at this point.

@helent: Laser hair removal on my legs changed my life. I had very coarse hair (and have pale skin). I have probably had about 6-7 treatments (they are not cheap) in the last 3 years, with the last one probably last summer. I can't remember the last time I shaved my legs, and the hair is at this point virtually

@quatrevingtquatre: Some people just feel compelled to tear this woman down. It's a little sickening at this point.

I don't understand all the hostility against this woman. She's inventive, strong and smart.
