This is not how gravity works, but you are right about the magnetic field. Everything would be scorched in the suns radiation without the magnetic field.
They propably just cut out the stuff they’re never going to use (because this game has walked the plank, long ago), but is already in the files. Maybe some of it comes back (which I doubt), which explains the bigger update sizes.
