It definetely is a mock-up of VW. Because when I make the other signs on car and horse readable, the sign on the car states: “Zugelassen..[ unreadable]” That means “registered ....”.
The point is, that Porsche did call it “Heckblende”, that’s why the other carmakers quickly copied this term, just to sound like beeing on par with Porsche.
