Legend has it that Suzuki bought the sheet metal for the Jimny (and LJ80) in Vladivostok for a trifle. Unsurprisingly the russians kept the whole lot of steel on the quay open-air. That’s why rust on these cars is an item and not a failure.
Converting a Beetle into a “car” is like transforming a toad into a tiger.
Just for completion: Peter Werner Schulz did not come from Cummins, but rather from DeutzAG, the oldest german coach builder, which he had saved, bringing him to attention of Ferry Porsche.
Ran when stranded.
Once I had a discussion with a retired Audi engineer, and he told me that the reason why so many cars of the 30s looked similar to the Beetle, was the welding machinery of that era. It had nothing to do with copied design, but rather with physics. They could not produce full steel bodies, only body on frame, and those…
What’s the point behind that filler cap on the hood? Porsches don’t have that.
“Schneckengang” means “snail’s gear”. So there we have the right comparison. The only time I saw that, was when workers were cleaning up their construction site, throwing all their stuff into the truck bed, while the Unimog moved along the site without a driver behind the wheel. I thought to myself, that they had …
yeah... “the other day in 1991".
Myself as a german, I cannot see the awful scandal here, except for the fact that the media seems to hate President Trumpy Trumpington. Not me!
...yeah, Ford GT drivers...
Naah.... I still have my old MB S203 and it is good dog ever since....
There is ONE point- namely in case of an emergeny when you need full brakes. But I admit that there never is/was/will be/ an ivestigation, let alone a statistic, that could proof the point that correct brakes/discs could have prevented an accident. (Like for example in the Toyota-pedal-cases). It is the single driver…
The most brilliant item of Isetta is the fact, that the engine is positioned at the rear right side of the vehicle(*). So only when a driver takes seat at the opposite front left, the masses of the vehicle are physically balanced.
I don’t doubt that. However the cheapskates will not do it, when you need full possible brake force. The carmaker may have saved $10/car with drums, but the driver is the one who has to pay dearly therefore in worst case.
Drum brakes! I really cannot fathom that even today drums are still cheaper than discs (for the car maker of course- not for the user).
16bit is for douches. Nobody needs more than 256-colour black-and-white.
Phase One: Vote for Trump
I think it could be “BLG terminal Bremerhaven” (Germany). If the car carrier vessels arrive from USA, there’s a good chance that they are crammed with V8s. Last time I was there one vessel arrived from N.J. and was full of american SUVs, another one full of Freightliner Trucks.
Jaguar ? Austin ?
