Hi Jason, I think VW was under british rule until 1950(?) so it might very well be the case that the brits blocked that irish contract until they left the board. Possibly in 1952 VW was free enough to deliver to ireland.

Maybe it was the stillborn Wartburg P100 which was later turned into the famous Melkus RS 1000. It is basically the same layout, including same engine.

This is the car I had once. It´s a “Seat 133". not to confused with a Fiat 127 or a Fiat Bambino 136. It is a rear-driven, air cooled 850cc engine, making 36 HP.

Seems that the japanese made something out of this VW studies...
