Hi! Mother of two here. You seem really self-aware, which is a good thing if you don’t want to make the mistakes your parents made. Second, depression during pregnancy is a thing, I unfortunately only learned about it after my first pregnancy. Third, everything is a process regarding babies. The caring, the loving, Read more

I felt the same feelings while pregnant with my second, it’s actually normal to feel this way. I was depressed. Crying, worried, not feeling connected, all of that. And once I had him, all of that went away. I am told it was pregnancy hormones.

Okay, so caveats: not a parent. Never been pregnant. BUT, I have spent a large chunk of time anxious and depressed, and this sounds bang on the money. This is a huge, scary thing to be doing, and you haven’t exactly had an easy go of things. But here’s the good news: you will have your baby’s whole life to connect. Read more

Just wanted to reply and say your feelings are totally valid. What impresses me is how aware of them you seem to be. I don’t think it would be possible to repeat the mistakes your parents made, with that level of self-awareness. And give yourself a break. Take it one day at a time, if that’s even possible.  Sending Read more

I’m sure my opinion will be pretty unpopular, but here goes. There is no law saying you have to keep this baby. There are thousands of people who desperately want children, and an available newborn would truly mean the world to someone who has hoped and prayed and yearned for a child. You have nurtured this child Read more

Oh my god, you poor thing, that is WAY too much to be dealing with. And remember pregnancy hormones can make your emotions weird. Read more

If this helps, some of what you’re feeling is not as abnormal as you think. When I was pregnant I couldn’t for the life of me connect the movements inside me to the image of a real baby. Several friends have said the same. It’s hard to really get that there’s a human in there and it’ll be real. Read more

If you’re trying to escape scandals involving children, women or animals, I do NOT recommend high-tailing it for Amish country.

Congratulations on leaving what is easily the most deranged comment I’ve ever received in my year of working at Jezebel lol.

It doesn’t matter what size your labia is with this outfit. It matters whether you plan to move your legs more than one millimeter apart while wearing it. Because if your legs move, your labia move, and that bodysuit will end up cutting you in half in a way that is so painful that, you, being a man - can’t even Read more

My bedroom in my apartment overlooks a large fenced in yard full of cars in various stages of being taken apart and, in the far corner, a closet sized fenced-in area that seems to house anywhere between three and six dogs (I can only hear them). About two or three nights a week, they bark all night from 1am to 6am, Read more

I used to live next door to a house with bark-dogs. The property lines were so close that I was more prone to hear their dogs than they were (they built a McMansion on the lot so it was 3x the size of what I was in, they were probably in the front of the house and could hear nothing). They had a wooden privacy fence Read more

At first glance at the lede I assumed Betsy Moneybags couldn’t get a grip on her Bichons, but as soon as I read it was two German Sheps and a Belgian (either sheepdog or malinois, doesn’t matter), I immediately thought the owners have bitten off more than they can chew. If you can’t tame a breed of that size and Read more

Recently staying with my mother during a serious illness. Her neighbor keeps 3 dogs in a dog run outside - which happens to be close to the bedroom where I sleep while I’m there. Barking all night. Barking all day. These jerks left the dogs outside when the temperature dropped below 30 degrees. I’d be barking too!!! Read more

Agreed completely; this snarky, thoughtless, condescending post is complete trash. This isn’t about dogs barking for 30 seconds at a stranger walking by; it’s about the assholes who happen to own dogs, which they fail to train or provide stimulus for, and which are blithely permitted to completely destroy a Read more

I agree with you. The owners should be jailed for animal abuse. We have long prison sentences in this country but what we need is more short prison sentences, say two weeks, for offenses like these. Give people warning so they can take vacation time from work or whatever but start jailing people!!!

Argh I feel you. My neighbor has a dog that she basically leaves outside all day during the warmer months and he just barks and barks and and howls and whines ALL goddamn day and evening until she gets home. He’s a cute dog, but Jesus christ he needs some solid training and more attention. It’s so bad and sounds so Read more

Oh my god that sounds awful. I live above a restaurant and one time I heard a dog whining for what felt like an hour. It also started freaking out my dog despite all my windows being locked shut. I called downstairs and some guests at the restaurant just didn’t want to eat outside on the patio so they tied their dog Read more
