Apparently this is associated with a change in Boeing’s corporate culture. The company used to be engineer-driven (for want of a better term), but that changed when it merged with McDonnell Douglas, whose management essentially took over. Now the values of MBAs trump those of engineers.

They don’t seem to have thought of how they will keep their security staffers loyal when money has no value. Being shut away in a redoubt with a bunch of armed men who might at any moment realize that there’s nothing to stop them from taking over may not be such an optimal survival strategy.
