If the NBA wants parity and the superstar players want to be paid their true value, the only solution is to have some sort of blend of what MLB does and a capped system. Each team can pay 2 players unlimited amounts, after those two, all players under contract fall under a cap system.

As a GM on a middling East team, this is not a crazy strategy. Lebron owns the East and GS owns the West for the next 3 years, so why not just trade and push their star West? That way They can rebuild and still make the playoffs (and make money) because all other East teams are so bad.
