Pizza, wine, beach and books sounds like the perfect weekend :). I’m in the middle of Margaret Atwood’s Oryx and Crake (first book in the MaddAddam trilogy) and it’s engaging and well-written. If you’re into fantasy, I recommend Robin Hobb’s Farseer trilogy, and her Elderlings novels generally.

I love borrowing books onto my Kindle. Do you use Overdrive? I just borrowed the Earthsea series from Ursula K Leguin. It's a fantasy series from a famous sci-fi author. While two of the books (including the first, a Wizard of Earthsea) are pretty lacking in women, the other two feature a woman as the main character.
