Strongly disagree, if you group MK8 and MK8D together, I put Double Dash as the #2 Mario Kart and 64 as the #3. But you do you.

Sure, I guess, but when you have access to Super Mario Kart, Mario Kart 64, and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe (and Mario Kart Tour, though I realize that’s kind of a different beast), it’s hard for me personally to care much about Super Circuit.
I gotta be honest, I’m less surprised by this news than the knowledge that there are people who still care about Super Circuit. Like, it’s down there with Super Mario Kart as one of the worst in the series (and it doesn’t even get the extra credit of being the first game). It was fine when all you had was a GBA and…
The plant boss (Flaahgra) gave you the Varia Suit for beating it, that’s how you got into the lava area (Magmoor Caverns) since it protects you against heat. Your next destination is the Phendrana Drifts, which you get to through the Magmoor Caverns. There’s a really big room with a tower in the middle - there’s a…
Oh definitely. But to me that still doesn’t compare when I was getting takeout somewhere (pre-covid, admittedly) 10 or 15 minutes away and they gave me the entirely wrong order. I only noticed when I got home and left the wrong food there when I went to get the correct food. When I got there (keep in mind, at least a…
The thing is, the quality isn’t any higher when you’re buying national brands but the prices are. And I don’t remember having selection issues that were solved by Heinen’s, but admittedly it’s been a while.
Yeah I mean I’ve had both too, but Mello Yello is bad. It’s clearly their version of Mtn Dew but for reasons I can’t describe it’s significantly worse, to the point that I’d rather have something entirely different like Sprite.
The event I described was definitely during covid and they did not seem to care (though they should have).
If you turned on the smaller-screen mode for the Nintendo Switch Online versions, they would look a lot closer to the GB originals.
Yeah I think that’s exactly it. After Super Mario 64 in 1996, it wasn’t until New Super Mario Bros in 2006 that they had another 2D Mario game (though they also didn’t have a new 3D one in that same time period other than Sunshine in 2002). I think Nintendo thought that fans didn’t want “classic” Mario games any more…
I mean, you know your eyes better than I do, but the dimmer colors are never hard to see (this isn’t like a modern game, where good luck if it’s night in game and you have ANY light in your room). They feel richer and don’t seem dark at all when they aren’t being compared to the GBA version.
Lived near Heinen’s for several years when I lived in Cleveland - they’re nice, but expensive, so I found myself going to Giant Eagle (or Target) for most of my staples and only going to Heinen’s for meat and produce (and even then, only when I wanted top tier stuff). And that’s the stuff I most want to pick out…
So, er, why this version in the launch collection for the GBA? The answer to this, and everything else, is: Nintendo.
Part of it is probably that, even without scanlines, GB/GBA games were designed to be played on a dim, 3" LCD screen, so playing them on the Switch’s larger and nicer screen (or a TV) still reveals more details than the developers would have necessarily intended for you to see. The additions from the emulators can…
Yeah if you’re going to have a cinematic credit scene, do whatever makes sense (think of it like the opening credits in a tv show or movie, not everyone is getting called out in a flashy way), but in that case I’d prefer to have the whole thing available from the main menu at any time and/or entirely at the end.
Right, it’s not like the extra like megabytes of storage for all the names or couple of minutes of scrolling text that nobody reads anyway is going to make a difference.
You’re right, I was misremembering earlier. There were other reasons that the Gamecube wasn’t considered to be on the same tier as the PS2/Xbox, but it wasn’t graphics/power (that started with the Wii).
Agreed on those, plus F-Zero GX.
I’ve heard really good things about Dawn of Sorrow, but I still haven’t played it. I don’t think it’s available anywhere except the DS (which is a common thing with DS games since it’s harder to do a straight port compared to GBA or home consoles due to having to handle the two screens).
