I'm used to insane prices on the commercial side but I had no idea a 4cyl O would cost 20k to overhaul. That's nuts. 

True tooling is an issue. I guess maybe if you "knew a guy" it would be easier

As a maintainer of planes, I can say it would be cheaper to get your A&P licenses and overhaul your own engine. I’ve never worked GA so I don’t know if that $20k figure for a small engine overhaul is accurate, but it sure seems like a lot. 

I think the buzzfeed/business insider style listicle is more offensive than the vehicle for a site with as many talented writers as jalopnik.
