I don’t think that would fly, considering the Department of Health and Human Services is the umbrella under which the NIH and the CDC operate. Trying to shutter them would be political suicide, no matter which way you slice it.

I know it’s kind of off topic, but I’m actually happier to hear that Katy Perry and Orlando Bloom support amfAR than the fact they’re in a serious relationship.

Kangaroos neither have cloven hooves nor chew the cud and are therefore not kosher. (I googled it for my original post since I assumed kangaroos were actually kosher and thus pork wouldn’t be a good replacement example, but it turned out that ‘roo wasn’t kosher either.)

True. As long as the meat was off the bone, I personally don’t care unless it tastes gross, but bugs are a step too far for me to knowingly eat.

I was gonna say that pork isn’t the best example since there isn’t a religious rule about no kangaroos, but I checked, and apparently kangaroo isn’t kosher. I have a hard time imagining that the complaining parents were upset about that since it’s Nebraska, but that’s literally the only thing I can think of.

Yellow Fever is vaccinated against where it is endemic. Flu is vaccinated against where it is endemic. Some places exist where Flu is endemic but Yellow Fever is not, and so people who live there are only recommended to get the flu vaccine.

While I appreciate the sentiment, this information is not correct. It takes weeks for antibodies to develop from scratch, so if you get a vaccine for Hepatitis A and have not been exposed to it, the vaccine will probably take weeks to provide good protection because of the nature of the adaptive immune response.

The experiment you’re suggesting is so unethical that it’s nearly as blatant as the (usually painfully obvious) examples that would be included in a yearly ethics training course.

That last one is horrifying. What the everloving fuck.

The commercial DNA tests have issues. Their cohorts usually have certain ethnic groups underrepresented, and it’s all guesswork, anyway. The ethnicity groups are based on ratios of genetic variants and probability of certain haplotypes (sorry for the jargon) existing in certain populations. So the broad strokes are

To be fair, we also care more about the first in flight/birthplace of aviation controversy than we probably should.

We have not cured AIDS. HIV disease has been turned from—in the vast majority of cases—an inevitable death sentence to a chronic illness. We can cure Hepatitis C infection but not HIV infection. Pre-exposure prophylaxis and post-exposure prophylaxis are not cures. They are prophylaxis. Only one man has ever been cured

I don’t even know where to begin with your comment. I really don’t. I have actual work to do, so I’ll just say that you’re wrong regarding the drug pipeline and how medical research is conducted.

I agree regarding Monster Hunter. I played to when you can pick your weapon in Monster Hunter World and then put it down. 30 minutes total. I regret nothing.

Go to a psychiatrist or a shrink. You sound hella depressed and anxious, and I’m not super surprised, considering what you’ve shared here. With the eating disorder, previous insobriety, and being subject to recent sexual assaults, you really need to talk to someone about this—not just scream it into the Internet void.

Dude, context clues in her original comment made it damn clean she was a woman. And, yes, women can tell dirty as hell jokes, but there’s a difference between that and the objectification present in some of the comments presented in the article and in the comments section itself. I’ve no issue with the breast puns

Ehhh, cats that heavy are either overweight, have larger frames, and/or are ripped. Unaltered male cats can be absolutely massive, to be honest. My cats (both spayed and female) are 11 lbs and 19 lbs. The larger one—whom I am trying to get to slim down—is approximately the same weight class as a dachshund.

Continuing my first play-through of Dishonored, because I am years behind the curve.

I don’t know what version of that page you’re reading, but I found at least three mentions of shitty attitudes towards women on the first page alone.

Except the English classes actually teach something and bowling is at least social and fairly chill.
