The basics of the time travel device wasn't the issue I had with the film. It was the introduction of 5 or 6 identical copies of the main characters that's the problem. Not to mention the important information withheld for seemingly no purpose, only to be revealed in a flashback near the end.

I've joked about Primer before, but I actually really liked the the first half. Unfortunately, this review sounds like this new film is more along the lines of the incoherent mess that's the second half of Primer.

What struck me about M was how quickly Lang mastered the use of sound in his films. Too many films in the 30s and 40s had overbearing soundtracks, but he was able to use silence to his advantage.
