Really liked this series! Other than access control, another important topic that I would add to this list is error handling (throwing-catching Exceptions, using Try or Either etc.).

Great write-up! I think access control is also playing an important role in modularization and good API design. DI (and to a smaller extent composition) is definitely not a settled topic in Scala land, so my preference is as good as everyone else's. we are in the process of rolling out a new feature to address this problem. On mobile animated gifs will be changed to click-to-play. This feature flag is already enabled on a few sites (e.g. http://sploid.gizmodo.com )

I like the idea of moving away from focusing on uniques as the key metrics.
