I don't love the 2.4 Ophuls I've seen, myself (Madame de …, La Ronde, Lola Montes) … but it does seem to be a hard to swallow omission. The camerawork is sublime.

Apropos of nothing other than ppl posting personal lists, I think it's just easier to divide into two categories. That way I can steer clear of the question of whether I actually need to enjoy something to be able to think it's great.

Hmmm … I was rooting for the AVClub as well, but mostly because I, too, don't tend to browse the comics-centric blogs as often as the AV Club for more general stuff.

Oh my gawd, Slate's culture writing is a consistent suck-fest of know-nothingness:
The Wire is truly is difficult cookie to break, and I haven't watched more than half of S1 … but I have a lot of admiration for it already. That being said, the fanboyism IS troubling in that people are, for the most part, using their appreciation for the show as moral edification.
