Ignoring the anti-apple trolls which have come out to play, the idea of a common standard* sounds like a good idea to me, but I doubt it'll ever happen :( Just following said standard wouldn't magically allow devices to interconnect, they're still running over proprietary networks, to their own backends e.t.c.
