Oh, no. I thought you were referencing BoJack Horseman. In the show, the main character unintentionally mocks the director of the film he's in because he thought he acknowledge how bad everything was when he said "[I'm not directing] no Casablanca." The director literally meant they were not making that film.

Right, because they're two different things (Was that a BJH reference or am I dumb?).

This reminds me when John Darnielle of "The Mountain Goats" just straight-up said that he doesn't understand why anyone thinks his rugged, unpolished work is superior. He objectively believes the final, purified product is the best.
