Look, if we’re being honest, I kind of think it looks boring too. Idk, maybe the trailer didn’t do a great job of selling it. Might just be the fact that visually it just doesn’t hold a candle to what I’ve come to expect a Ghibli movie to look like. I mean I think Ghibli I think of backgrounds that each could be their

This is subjective as hell, but The Red Turtle looks arguably worse from an animation quality standpoint than a typical Ghibli movie.

It’s mostly down to preference of style, but this film definitely has a simple aesthetic to it that might turn away potential viewers used to the classic Ghibli style.

Honestly, judging

Saying this is a Ghibli movie is as accurate as saying Evangelion is a Ghibli movie

I’ll admit for a long time I pretty much took “Studio Ghibli” and “Miyazaki” as synonymous.

From the trailer, it doesn’t look very exciting at all. Outside of this site, I’ve heard virtually nothing about the movie.

From what I’ve seen it would appear to otherwise lack the typical Ghibli magic and has an art style that is unfamiliar, not bad, but not as good as the other, more traditional films.

I think the character design has big impact ...

Remember how in the 90's all Disney Renascence movies had more or less the same art style to the point were even competitors tried imitating it?

I’ve watched the movie while i was in japan. Very few japanese people were in the room. I didn’t like the movie. And a lot of people looked disappointed. Its not a “real” Ghibli movie. I think that Ghibli only did the turtle and nothing more. There is no Ghiblish feeling anywhere else in the movie.

Only Yesterday did well in Japan and Miyazaki wasn’t really connected there. From Up on Poppy Hill also did pretty well and he also wasn’t really connected there either.
