I get Drew Barrymore. A lot. I get it more when I'm blonde and when my hair is longer, but even with my hair super short, once in a while someone mentions it.

@whynotshesaid: Ironically, at the Whip It screening last weekend, I saw a former derby teammate of mine who was on crutches. She retired after two seasons of derby and then injured herself running. Some of us are more coordinated on skates. :)
@curiousgeorgiana: Actually, I'd bet it's to protect the royal undies from skin oils and such of the handlers. So it's those two women who should be worried about being dirty! :)
@Jeenzy: My niece actually has this, and loves it. I think it's "learning" because of motor-skills stuff — ie. the dollar bill is crinkly, the lipstick rattles, when you do the zipper it sings ABCs and 123s songs. I was a bit weirded out when my mom bought it for my niece, but she honestly does love it, and it's…
Very good friends of mine from college had "Brick" by Ben Folds as their first dance song at the reception. I will never forget the look my friend Sadie and I gave each other when we realized what was playing. To this day I have NO idea what they were thinking.
@BoatGirl: I don't know if I'd call it depressing, but I love love love Sarah Waters and didn't like The Little Stranger really at all. :(
@Mafalda para Presidente: Agreed. When I saw this at the grocery store the other night I was dismayed that Parker Posey looked ill. Oops.
@ichoosemycheezburger: BTW, just caught your last question on a re-read. I'd recommend two things:
@FormicaLinoleum: Bingo. I get so frustrated when doing interviews where they want to focus on my derby name, or the makeup I wear or whatever. I wanna talk about strategy! And the finer technical points of wheel choice on different floors. And how much I've learned about organizational communication from running a…
@Diziet_Sma: Damnnit. The knees are kind of a requirement. Poo.
@LauraNOLA: It's funny how little I understood about football until I started playing derby. Now I get it, at least a little. :)
@Diziet_Sma: I'm 32. I just finished my third season. I foresee myself skating until at *least* 35, longer if my knees let me. I do have tattoos, but only a couple, and the vast majority of derby skaters don't have more than the average person I don't think.
@ichoosemycheezburger: I can totally understand why there are those who have issue with the parts of roller derby culture which are visible outwardly. Hell, I've been playing for almost three years now, and I have issues with more of it than I'd normally admit. However, there is a TON of behind the scenes stuff that…
@morninggloria: That, and "If my chard was singing to me, this is the song it would sing." Anytime I hear, I don't know, anything.
@formergr: You ever see the SNL sketch where they parody the eHarmony ads? They have the same actor playing both the male and female halves of the couple, for just this reason. Classic.
@yo soy la mala: Yep. Despite the fact I'm bi, I took the test, seeking match with a guy. I was essentially rejected on the basis that there was such a small percentage of folks out there in the world who would be a good match for me that they didn't think they could find them.
Ideal: Wake up at 8:00, workout, shower, eat a lovely breakfast of espresso, hot cereal, yogurt & fruit. Have time to check email and personal matters before getting out the door.
Guess I've got to be the voice of dissent here. Hormone problems mean I don't bleed enough to warrant spending the money on a DivaCup, but I have used instead for upwards of 12 years now. They are fantastic!
I like the phrase "artistic great-aunt" better than what I usually use to describe such looks: middle-aged woman who takes classes. Either way, I think I this will be me in 20-30 years, and I'd be proud to look this good.
