If u base your entire purchase history on a reviewer you shouldn’t be playing games.

Two can play this game. I’ll play purchase their titles secondhand in that case. Any publisher/developer willing to take part in this, clearly has no confidence in their products.
i never buy games until they’ve been out for weeks even months. The last thing I bought near launch was Fallout 4 and i mightily regretting that purchase.
“It’s just video games.”
This. Jesus Christ, this.
Wow, something you were looking forward to might not be as good as you hoped it would be and now you have to decide whether or not to pay money to find out? Welcome to EVERYTHING IN LIFE.
What does it matter? Even No Mans Sky was given positive, if somewhat mixed, reviews. Innovation in games like rb6 Siege is completely ignored for a year. Game reviewers are, on average, pretty fucking aweful at their jobs.
tl;dr: “We have no confidence in our product or the market that we have continuously flooded with bullshit. From now on, we won’t let negative reviews hurt us because we went and fucked up, fuck you consumers, give us your money.
I understand your frustration. At least you’re not wallowing in the hyperbole of Ben Kuchera.
“all gamers should factor in as they assess when and how they’ll find out if a game is worth their time and money”
All I am reading here is a re-enforcement of the message Kotaku has been trying to be strong on for a while now:
This really feels like a scuzzy move. I personally don’t use reviews for the only way of deciding if I wanna buy a game or not, but it is nice to look into a game before I pre order it(I don’t pre order much anymore unless there is a certain edition I really want or to show support)
So, they are still trying to get us to preorder games but are giving us even less reason to do so? Seems like a good strategy.
They just don’t want reviewers giving them shit for putting out broken games at launch. Instead of fixing the problem and waiting until the game is actually finished before putting it out, they’ve decided to be cowards and silence criticism so they can make a couple million more on day one. This is disgraceful and…
Oh Bethesda, If they didn’t have a horrible track record for day 1 releases.... I probably wouldn’t complain.
The number of games that didn’t have early review copies and pre launch coverage that came out and ended up being good is far, far less than the games that had reviews up a week or more in advance. It’s really fucking shady when you don’t want people seeing or knowing about the game until day 1.
well if the early review copies were of actual finished games, then we wouldnt have a problem. guess they got tired of people talking shit about how broken things were. now we can find out how broken they are on release day.
“we want everyone, including those in the media, to experience our games at the same time.”
Trying to polish a turd.
Except none of that matters, any “extra” cash will always be spent on marketing instead of proper pipeline procedures especially in AAA gaming.
Another “Let’s player” complaining about a strike, what else is new. It’s not their game, and they certainly aren’t “transforming” it. All they’re doing is talking to themselves while playing a developers game.
These youtubers are the equivalent of people standing outside movie theaters shouting out the endings to all the movies, and calling their interpretation of it ‘art’ (because why not), then getting pissed off when the theaters and movie studios have something to say about it.
