I never made the jump to the higher-quality formats...mostly for lack of funds. But even CD audio is still much better than that of the digital files you can buy from Amazon or iTunes and LOVE having pre-archived, high-quality backups. :)

First of all, you can take care not to break a CD. With a hard drive, no matter how carefully you handle it, it WILL die. If you've been diligent about backing things up you'll still be okay but that's an extra step that many people don't take, isn't it?
