“Better still, there’s none of the dreaded backtracking Metroidvanias sometimes over-indulge in. When you die, that part happens automatically. I’m surprised nobody did it this way sooner.”

Rogue Legacy did this, 4 years ago, almost exactly as you lay it out in the article. From the enemy changes, to the RNG, to the

1) there were no F2P games when I was an avid pirate

I personally think many people want to partake in games but simply lack the funds to spend on multiple games. I’m not sure it’s all greed. I’m not sure it’s entitlement either. I’m positive those are DEFINITELY some of the cases that people turn to piracy, but I’m not sure that’s the reason piracy exists.

Not sure that qualifies as “greed” in this case. Wanting something doesn’t make you greedy, it makes you wanting. Greed is insatiable. If I want 1 game, i’m not greedy. If I want ALL the games, I’m greedy.

In the real world, if you can’t afford something, if you can’t earn something, you don’t get to have it.

Disagree with the “syntax based argument” all you want, its factually accurate.

Boom! you nailed it there, I gotta say you are one of the only people I have run into actually willing to discuss piracy. Most people just love a witch hunt and pirates make good targets.

I wasn’t suggesting charity was a complete solution, but only an example of a solution that treats everyone in a positive manner. Nor was I suggesting that people who pirate games are bad people. I describe the act itself as bad because it doesn’t solve the economic situation of the people who resort to it and erodes

I agree completely, devs deserve money for every copy that’s played. I however think thats utterly unrealistic and no quantity of charities will make it happen.

yes yes something something etc etc

A fraction of a fraction of pirates would buy games if they couldnt pirate. While the impact on devs is generally not Ideal (except for when it is, F’ing far cry 3 I am taking that resentment to the grave) there is no clear cut solution for helping them without hurting everyone else involved.

I mean take it leave it I dont really care, you can kiss my freshly washed taint.

That’s great except I couldn’t afford $5 for years, I was thrown out of my parents house with nothing but my computer and the clothes on my back (and a broken bicycle but whatever) I worked 40 hours a week and went to college full time despite that I still had free time on the weekends, seeing as my only hobby at that

That’s just a crap argument “you aren’t a real gamer unless you hemorrhage your food budget into a mostly soulless industry”
