I’m pretty sure I could outrun dozens, if not hundreds of professional athletes in the mile. Athletes are extremely specialized. What makes you think a lineman could run a sub 7 minute mile? Why do we care that much that running backs are devalued (or rather, more accurately valued)? Call me naive, but I really don’t think we’re incarcerating inmates at a cost of~$45,000/yr just so that we can squeeze 200 hrs of discounted labor out of them.

I guess I just don’t see $1 an hour as bad pay for someone serving time in prison. You don’t have any expenses- no rent, no food, no electric bills, no health care costs. I mean, that’s probably more than what a $10/hr worker actually nets after all these basic costs. Additionally, it’s probably easier getting a job…

Being better able to discern a players true value has demolished running backs.  Someone like Le’Veon Bell who just looks twice as good as James Conner ends up with only marginally better statistics.... I can see why you don’t want to blow your whole budget on the guy.
