It’s weird that such a simple design ends up looking busier than a typically styled bike.

I was pretty stoked on the Kalk, until I found out about Sur Ron.

It wouldn’t surprise me that much. Seems like a big part of having a bottomless bank account is finding things to spend it on. Instagram is going to be a lot more helpful for that than reading books or whatever

dang, I learned something today. “free reign” kinda made sense to me. Like you’re untouchable

I’d bet you can tweak the camber a little

I think you’d be surprised how big that market segment is. People in the US buy bikes because they’re fun, and electric bikes offer an entirely new type of fun. Less extreme fun than some, less practical fun than others, but undeniably different.

I agree with this in theory, but the asterisk is that the 120hp bike is only making that at the top of its rev range, where you rarely are on the street.

Yeah, even though you can’t really lock in to that tank, it’d be interesting to replace a tank with a couple of slightly outturned ‘fins’ for your knee / thigh.

I get this viewpoint, but IMO the half-measure of “replace private insurance” is more likely to be trash than that of “buy it if you want”.

Translation: How dare you complain about oligarchs in the US, when the same mechanics that let them accumulate enough wealth to start to meaningfully unwind American democracy ALSO lifted a bunch of people you’ll never meet out of poverty.

🙄Bitcoin went from $20k to $3.5k in 2018. But the real selloff is coming in “the next few days”. Cool insight bud

warning: design nerd shit ahead

I’m giving you a hard time, but my point is- In the US, most bikes are fundamentally toys, with enough added practicality to make the owner feel okay about having bought it. The required practicality ranges from ‘plenty’ (your bike) to ‘almost none’ (2-stroke miniGP).

I’m pumped that Zero is pushing new bikes, and finding where their profit is. (demo dude said that 90% of the SR/Fs they sell are the top-spec $24k ones, and they sell faster than they can build them).

Yeah, it’s kind of a bummer the way the math works out. EV bikes work as $20k third-bikes, and $5k moped/dirtbike mashups, but the middle of the market is tough. Especially because it’s so easy to make comparisons to ICE bikes.

oh goody, another adventure bike riding engineer who thinks his brand of fun is the best brand

If you get the chance to do a demo ride, it’s worth ducking out of work for.

Yeah, I wondered about the time / temp thing too. If they’re dialed in to have just the right amount of give,  does that change after a few years of UV exposure?

Thanks for the detailed answer! Very helpful

How big do you feel like the progression of maintenance headaches is from LR3 -> L320 -> L322?

Finally! Somebody realized that aping mobile interfaces doesn’t make sense for a car’s infotainment system. It’s insane to me that manufacturers optimize for first-use one these. Like owners are going to delete it and download a competitor on the app store if it isn’t immediately familiar.
