I’m not sure why it matters that players agreed to it in the CBA.  And before there was a salary cap, didn’t owners want to profit from their investments?  I don’t think they need a salary cap for that to be the case.

The NFL has revenue sharing. The NFL has a draft system that allows the teams that perform the worst to get exclusive rights to the very best incoming players. The NFL does not need a salary cap to maintain parity. 

Unless the CBA has changed, a player can't even renegotiate their contract until they've got 3 years experience.
