I was dreading this headline when I woke up this morning.

Sickening to watch, knowing the potential for serious injury. With Jules Bianchi having just succumbed to his injuries this year, I think a well-deserved discussion of racing in open-cockpit cars needs to be had, yet again.

Apologies for any offense but I think NBC’s low budget shows and they’ve definitely given you short shrift on pre-race, even with Will there. Not having announcers at the race, where they interact with the drivers, engineers and principles, comes through clear in the coverage.

Exactly! Why is there not even a sign attached to the bridge?! All I can spot is a dinky little sign to the right.

Respectful dissent: Those old roll bars from the past saved many, many lives. Pickups pretty much fold up when rolled (it’s just a little bit of sheet metal) so even the so-called “decorative” bars offer genuine structural support.

Usually, yes, but if you’ve ever seen the aftermath of a pickup roll-over, you’ll take anything you can get.

This is why F1 is virtually unwatchable - not being at the track means they don’t actually know what’s going on at all.

So, SO true. Gotta make expectations or desires clear but MUST leave room for spontaneity. When you “know” what happens next, the excitement that comes with “not knowing” can evaporate quickly...

Oh man, I just found my buddy’s email on there. It’s only a matter of days before his wife ditches him.

Well, there’s a healthy “chicken or egg” debate among product folks as to whether it’s dying for lack of proper marketing or because it genuinely has fallen from favor.

Dude, relax. It’s car stuff. It’s Jalopnik. This ain’t The Economist.

Lather, rinse, repeat.

“In a world after an apocalypse, I’m not sure I’m going to want to rely solely on my 944!”

Wait, they’re not?!

Miles = wear, regardless of who owned it. Sure, Mr. Fastidious may have done due diligence but more wear does not = a goodie in any way other than imagination. As a used car dealer (the owner, not the salesman) and he’ll tell you the *reality* of what miles mean, not the mythology.

The Quail is way, way more fun and entertaining than Pebble IMHO. PB is astonishing in its history and detail but Quail is just more relaxed, more contemporary, focused more on post-war sports/GT’s.

BMW 3.0CSL - lightweight, box-flared race variants.

Beautiful. I managed to spin at that corner (turn 11) once, eyeing that wall you’re shooting from nervously... PUCKER.

I worked at a place that “forgot” to fire a guy — He showed up at work the next week and walked into a status meeting to “what are you doing here?” from his boss and coworkers. They crushed him. Just tore his heart out in front of everyone.

Yup. Its never going to lose value at this point.
