Ditto for the fact I don't need car showrooms smelling like beauty parlors. I am not there for a facial, I am there to smell that "new car smell".

When I first glanced at the headline I thought - some kinda new car smell?

Walked away disappointed. I don't go to car showrooms to smell anything except new cars. The smell of hot metal and motor oil of a competent, hardworking garage is much more "comforting" to me than a dainty beauty parlour. Jasmine green tea

Can you imagine the resulting PR photos? We'd look like some anime air force.

Dammit I want to rewatch Iron Eagle and its sequels already.

May the lock-ons ever be in your favour!

That's an awesome career record :)

I started playing sims at a young age too (from Falcon 3.0 onwards) but I later favored prop planes and seat of the pants flying so logged several thousand hours on the IL-2 Sturmovik series until I got bored of it.

Now I enjoy the art of causing Epic Failure in sandbox games like

Shhhhh... it's a secret Jalopnik Gold feature! j/k

Hey, thanks for the reply - I'll see if I can ruffle up some good memories from the past. I rarely have the chance to romp around the local sights and sounds once I joined the workforce about a decade ago. For leisure I much prefer the openness of Malaysia anayway. It's a much more relaxing place than fast paced,

In elementary school I had the pleasure of reading a huge book about P-47s in the European theater but I can't for the love of all that is radial remember the name of this book. I have to buy it. Such great memories of reading about blowing up locomotives and mixing it up with the Luftwaffe plus lots of technical

I really like the silver sheen on this craft. It's almost like the Naboo royal vessels :)

I noticed the IL-2 Sturmovik also had semi recessed wheels!

It is very interesting to read about forced induction in piston engined aircraft and then make mental comparisons to the turbo and supercharged performance cars of today.

Indeed. Car culture goes hand in hand with appreciation for "defence matters" :)

Was it due to most air combat over Russia taking place at lower altitudes?

Doug, I just want to say that every time one of your articles gets published, my day is instantly brightened.

Especially if the article involves a Ferrari. Just saying.

I have similarly hilarious tales when I learnt the questionable practise of attempting to optimize my motorcycles for fuel economy a long long time

You can park your car at the public road at the end of the runways (there are small parks all along Changi Beach) and watch planes do takeoff and landing approaches a couple hundred feet over your head. Not low enough to give you a haircut but still very awesome.

Hi, I have been residing in Singapore for the past 30 years (born and educated here, if that counts). The majority of people you meet on the street speak very good English and you won't have any problems at all communicating with anyone.

Now the concept of "service" outside of the airport and the rest of the country is another story.

I've been in the Singapore "service" industry for the better part of a decade and wholeheartedly agree with you. I have had "service" managers outright order staff to cheat customers and refuse to provide "service"

I used to boast that, having been forced to ride a motorcycle through flooded highways and torrential rains, that I was piloting a motorBOAT instead of a motorbike. Sometimes there are just no alternative routes and I occasionally neglect to bring my rain gear along.

However, even foolish riders like myself would
