I was like that for years and then in college I played the Amber RPG which is diceless and 100% all role playing and had a blast.  These days I embrace the Role in RPG.   If I just want a dungeon crawling game I can play Descent or Sword and Sorcery

Beat-em-ups, IMO, practically require the use of sprites. I legit can’t think of a single brawler that has looked or felt better using 3D polygons rather than sprites.
