I felt the music kind of reinforces this theory. Seemed very war drum-ish to me.

I always thought that Star Fleet should have a ship that was like an aircraft carrier for deep space missions. Should be big enough to launch several exploration vessels on short side missions. Maybe have a couple of Defiant class escorts.

That would be consistent with what’s been seen on screen.

My guess – based on nothing more than a vague feeling – is that Discovery is on a longer,deeper version of the Enterprise’s ‘five year mission.’
