Oh yeah that’s definitely true now that I think about it. I’ve been caught stealing a ton of times on the controller when I just meant to walk past something, and talking to my companions is like corralling a greased pig sometimes.

I’ve been playing D:OS1 with a controller and it’s fine. Maybe not knowing what you’re missing makes it seem better?
Lasted about 30 minutes of RUST before discovering that survival sandboxes weren’t for me.
Funny, I just looked back and saw that we had the exact same thought at the exact same time. Guess Hollow Knight is on everybody’s mind right now!
For sure. For example, I’m replaying Hollow Knight now that all the DLC is out, and I’m consciously trying to use my Soul spells and Nail Arts instead of just wailing on everything with my regular Nail attacks at all times. It’s hard to force myself to do it!
Wizardry 6: Bane of the Cosmic Forge for me. There’s a frigging pitch-black section!
Yeah, I gather it’s one of the best games ever... I seriously considered buying a Super Nintendo Classic in part so I could finally play it. (But mainly for an excuse to could replay SMW, Link to the Past, and FFIII...)
Same. A friend had it and we quickly got bored by the obscurity of it and moved on to other games. Never tried Super Metroid because I was so disinterested in regular Metroid.
Thanks for writing this. It’s always irritated me, though not enough to keep me from running out to get each one when it comes out. Great analysis of something that’s easy to wave away.
Funny, I was just thinking about the NES Ninja Gaidens while playing Ori and the Blind Forest. The gameplay reminded me a lot of Ninja Gaiden — a lot of “get it precisely right or lose” jumps, as opposed to the more combat-focused gameplay of Hollow Knight and other recent Metroidvanias. I see that as a bit of a…
Except it turns out I only remember the first line of the song, so it’s just been the first line over and over and over.
Aaaaaaaand now All-4-One’s 1994 smash hit “I Swear” will be stuck in my head the rest of the week..
Don’t forget to Ancient Wyvern some stuff up too!
Pity! It looks really cool, but that isn’t enough to outshine the competition these days...
That’s disappointing, since the trailer made it look like a trip. Have you played Contrast, their previous game? I downloaded it a while back, but it’s never made it to the top of my queue.
Amazing. Please tell me the cocktail napkin is still up on the wall of that bar.
So glad this isn’t just me. These little fuckers made me doubt my abilities more than just about any other video game enemies I can remember.
Yeah for sure.
An equally nutty hand for Cate Hall and Michael Addamo a couple weeks ago: Hall is small-stacked and goes all in with a pair of 10s, Addamo calls with a pair of Qs. Flop is 5-5-5, turn is... another 5. An A, K, or Q would’ve made it a push at that point, but the river was a J. So Hall got knocked out in 8th place with…
This was very much me a couple months ago. Congrats! Soul Master was a bit of a turning point for me IIRC, leading to a stronger, triumphal road to the end, but I don’t know if I did things in the same order as you.
