It's a car being sold to the US market. You know, that same market where a bread and butter Camry makes 280 hp and every good ol' boy in a pickup has 400 hp. a 12 second 0-60 in a 100 hp 3200 lb car might as well be a ten speed bike.

As someone who owned numerous half ton & 3/4 ton Ford & GM pickups from the 94-99 model years, I'm giggling at that statement. The drivelines may have been "solid", if not particularly stout or powerful, but the bodies and frames were juuuuuuuuunk.

I'm always surprised that people are surprised by pickup truck brand loyalty. Pickups have replaced muscle cars in the gearhead lexicon for over 25 years now. It's no different than Mustang vs Camaro vs Challenger/Cuda guys in the late 60's-early 70's.

As opposed to the full leather, heated seats, luxo-truck interior on the hilux?

Find some musical taste. They're a (were) damn good act.

This is an article about Ford bringing said car to the US market. I'm not quite sure what Norwegian economics and commodity prices have to do with that.

One sentence. One entire Sentence. Kindergartners with Downs Syndrome posess better reading comprehension than you.

So buy a Tacoma? At least then you'd get a decent engine in the truck.

Help me out here.

Buyers at that price level already own a proper "rock crawler", and it's not a crew cab pickup.

Nothing screams "usable torque" like a 3 cylinder 1 liter engine tuned for fuel mileage.

3193 lb car, to be exact.

Good call, I'm sure ford would intentionally underrate a small motor by 45 HP. What with the ultra-competitive muscle car 1.0 3 banger wars and all.

No one is going to pay 20+k for a vehicle that "has trouble going up hills". The US isn't a 3rd world backwater sh*thole like Greece.

So, a 100 hp 3 banger car that is decidedly not small.

It's a 3 cylinder turbo engine on a 17k car. It's disposable, what "replacement costs"?

And the last things you probably think of for Steve McQueen are a heuer-branded fire suit and a Porsche 917. not as a 300 lb guy doing terrible films in the late 70's

The movie takes place in 64-66. That would put Shelby at 48. Why exactly do you think he'd be a "grandfather figure", as opposed to you know, the ex-racer 5 years removed and asshole car builder?

Hahaha.."great actor". Good one.
