Srsly, in states with high sales and/or property taxes (which get baked into rents) folks without papers pay way more in taxes than they get in social services.
Also, the only “welfare” undocumented immigrants even potentially qualify for is health insurance for their kids.

Yeah, I think that’s the key to it: having the strength as someone who pushed through to hold the hardest parts of their struggle up to the light in the unrequited hope that someone can benefit from it. Honestly, it’s the only tangible example I can give of someone acting altruistically.

It’s important to know that everybody will need different types of help and your situation will probably different than mine or Phyllis’s or anybody’s.
Imagine being at the bottom of a well as water rushes in. Above you, you can see the world moving. You can see the sun shining and people talking, but you do not call out for help because you are ashamed of being in the well.
