I love Sprites, and I’ve always wanted to own one, but prices are pretty ridiculous now. I found one in a speciality garage for £16,000! Admittedly it looked to be in very nice shape. On the other hand, just a few meters away for exactly the same price, there was a Lotus Esprit Turbo (also looking in good condition).

Cue supercars that come with lead ballast installed by the manufacturer, but that is curiously easy to remove by the owner...

They’re basically doing what the US did in the 1700s; blatantly copy other people’s stuff, until you know enough to make a better version, then get really strict about copyrights.

I had a recent dream that I’d had to sell my VW Polo to get something boring for work. I don’t remember much of the dream, but at the end of it I’d persuaded myself that even though I can’t afford to tax/insure/park two cars, and I don’t have any use for two cars, I was going to buy back my Polo anyway.

Not exactly an easy job, but my brother’s father-in-law used to be a mechanic. As his garage was the only one for miles around that was certified to perform MoT tests, and was surrounded by both very rich people, and the restoration/classics garages that looked after their cars, he somewhat-regularly had to perform…

It’s settled then, it should come back to the UK. It would be legal here, and the steering wheel is on the right side too.

I guess this is one of those cases where (unsurprisingly) a non-US built car is a lot cheaper to fix if you live near where it was built, rather than in the US.

Well, yards and metres are basically equal, the only difference is that some signs have a ‘m’ instead of ‘yards’. Most of them just say “200” (etc.) with no unit given.

both of which are awful measurements, because metric is so much better.

You know what they say, if you want to make a million dollars in racing, start with two million, but this dude decided to start with two million of someone else’s money.

I have never skied, that’s true, and now I think about it, I’ve only really been abroad to warm places.

This is one of those things where I suddenly realise that most people weren’t aware of this from an early age, and suddenly the world makes a bit more sense.

Get in, start the car, then spend a minute or two adjusting my seat, selecting what I’m going to listen to, running back inside to grab that thing I’ve forgotten, etc. etc.

I do remember a video here of a guy crashing a vintage (1920's?) racer during a hill climb, when he gets thrown completely out of the car, but of course I can’t find it now. (He was fine btw, and the car was repairable. ETA, the video was recent, the car was vintage)

I’d never even heard of winter tires until I heard Americans arguing about them. In the UK we just use the same tires all year round.
