I think diversity in creators is more important than diversity in characters, IMO.

As a mostly-white, mostly-straight, mostly-male person, it's easy to say "I can read about PoC, LGBT, female characters and relate to them, what's the big deal?" when there is already a ton of white, straight male characters.
