It would be awesome if they could make a "pop up" rail gun on top of a nuclear powered submarine. Just the end of the barrel and sensors could surface next to an enemy city long enough to pop off a few rounds and then submerge before anyone could detect and counter it's location...

As an inland sea kayaker, I've been making my own maps with layered google maps screen shots in photoshop for years. It's nice to have a semi-transparent topo layer on top of your road map and small inset maps for tide charts, driving directions, etc... I generally just use a big waterproof map case to keep it on deck.

It's kinda sad, but I don't have that much sympathy for a cheap copy. They would have copied the real thing down to the very bolts if they could - just like the B-29s they "proudly" reverse engineered.

I don't have much $ to spare, but would like to repurpose an old PC for this. Would a Dell XPS with a 1.86 ghz core 2 duo, 3 gigs ddr2 ram, Win XP, and a geforce 8600 GT be enough to push decent video to a 42" HDTV? I'd probably rock free Boxee, Hulu, and my streaming Netflix Acct.

@Melinda Serven: I use freegeek here in portland as well. Great staff and I feel less guilty about getting rid of a perfectly working, but outdated, piece of tech, knowing that it will be used again.
