i think its more of the first thing you said, they are mostly about profits , and allot of the time original ideas have to be shafted , its unfortunate...

The story behind the 360 being so similar is that apparently they got a copy of the ps3 system plans and modified it lol , i dont know if its true but it would be funny if it was.

kinect is supposed to be forwards compatible so... i dont think its going to change

They actually go very deep into the world and lore of the games. They have thousands of books in the games that you can actually read, these books are common in various homes of many of the city folk . They are sometimes referenced by people as well. Try reading some of the books they are actually pretty good!
