I’ll always give a like to the rare Just Shoot Me reference.  I think that show is unfairly underappreciated.  I’m not claiming it’s some forgotten gem, but it was a funny (occasionally hilarious) sitcom with a strong ensemble cast.

Tyra Banks famously did that, although you may be referring to another equally tasteless TV personality who did the same thing.
