Many if not most of the complaints seem to come from fans of the comic and the idea that the characters should be wacky and larger-than-life, fun for the entire family.

Saw the film before reading the article or comments but only after finding it the subject of the latest My World of Flops.
Saw the film specifically to read this article after seeing the film, and was surprised by how mostly entertained I was, but then I'm not a fan of the comics nor wedded to any particular conception of the Fantastic Four, other than Story's was too cartoonish by half.
Didn't see this film until a few days ago and only then because of this article and wanting to read it after first seeing the film.
Thought she was referring to Craig T. Nelson.
You joke but I watched every episode of Studio 60 and none of 30 when they were both concurrently airing out of some now-sadly-too-late-to-matter mistaken belief and loyalty that the latter was ripping off the former more serious, better pedigreed and better acted show.
Eggers sat for an interview at our school and was surprised at how old and serious he was, having never seen his likeness and known him only from the first few pages of Genius and McSweeney's.
I have the book on my bookshelf (think it was part of a Book of the Month Club sign-up deal, 5 books for a buck sort of thing) and only got as far as what you've described.
Don't remember that part, but my reaction would have been less "what a cool guy" and more "what an irresponsible asshole."
Vonnegut was required reading at my high school: Cat's Cradle and Slaughterhouse Five.
If marriage is the triumph of imagination over intelligence, and second marriage the triumph of hope over experience, then the fourth must be some kind of repeat customer discount because who the hell gets married four times?
Never read the book the show is based on, but I can imagine why the real Eddie would be upset enough with how the show has changed that he'd reduce his involvement, if he still has any, with the show.
Do banks even give out small kitchen appliances anymore?
Jessica re-imagining her college years with her current neighbors was perfect, if a little mean.
Some families try to pick a Western name that sounds somewhat like the traditional name.
Many times the traditional name becomes the middle name, which may not be a solution that satisfies everyone, but at least potentially gives the child the option of picking which one it would like, though by growing up in a Western society with Western friends, the choice becomes somewhat predetermined.
Sheena Easton's "Sugar Walls" ushered me into puberty, which, sadly, is not a euphemism.
I think no one is denying Elektra has agency and is an interesting, developed character in her own right, but rather the conception of her within the context of how Asians are portrayed in general on the show could be read as problematical.
From your avatar and past comments may I surmise your book topic is music related?
Due to weather and the apparent need of the local news to keep reminding of it, I missed most of the first round, so wasn't able to see the extent of Jerry's goofs that everyone else is railing him for, but I did see the hilarious "Animal House" guess.
