Not a different gearbox. The IMS is the intermediate shaft bearing in the engine. The tt uses a different engine that was derived from the GT1 race engine (Metzger). The regular 996 is not.

996 and 997 turbo/gt2/gt3 use the Mezger motor, basically a continued evolution of the 964 motor. The M96 and M97 motors are a separate development and they have the IMS issues

996 Turbo uses the Mezger engine as used in the GT3. Completely different unit from the one in the vanilla 996. The Mezger was also used on the gen 1 997 Turbo but the gen 2 moved to a turbo version of the direct injection engine seen in the regular Gen 2 997.
