Yes. His friend just fell off a steel beam and died. They aren’t going to stop work for the day, though, so he just has to deal with it in his own way.

The whole “in today’s day and age” argument is stupid.
Did Babe Ruth fuck your mom and not call or something? Geez man.
All games evolve. He was head and shoulders above his competition which translates to raw talent. Most talented among his peers. So if they had all the resources available today his raw talent would be enough.
So, I had to know and I watched some batting breakdowns. Long story short, I don’t think Ruth could hit today with the swing he had. But... more than anything there is one reason.
The man obviously had the strength and the hand eye coordination. Give him a coach and sometime I bet he’s still the best player in the game. You don’t hit 500 foot homeruns by accident. I don’t care who is pitching.
I think it’s a question of resurrection versus transplanting. If we resurrected Babe Ruth and just plopped him into today’s game he’d get eaten alive. But if we cloned Babe Ruth and raised that clone from birth in the modern game he’d be the best hitter of all time.
So, no thought given that if any of those old legends were around today, they would take part in the same training regimens, eat the same improved diets, have the same lack of worry about the Selective Service, and be all around better players than they were at the time?
Lol I love idiots that think he wouldn’t of changed with the times....imagine him actually working out and understanding spin ratio or launch angle or seeing film of other pitchers...anyone craping on someone that personally had more offensive output than some opposing teams during his time .. and then claiming some…
Other question- Would Adam Ottavino succeed if he were transported back to 1918, or would they call his dancing slider witchcraft and burn him at the stake?
If anything, Babe Ruth’s swing looks a lot like the Japanese and Korean players’s swings, in general.
Ok sure but could Adam Ottavino smoke 20 Cuban Cigars a day, drink whiskey like it’s water and mash out an endless supply of diseased trim and still live to be 52 years of age ?
Now picturing 1920s-nutrition Ottavino tossing meatballs
I mean Oscar Robertson would look like a loser trying to guard a 3rd string 2018 point guard in 2018. The game changes and so do the rules. You are an all-time great against the players you play against.
So here’s the thing about this type of argument, which happens over and over and over again: We have the benefit of being able to look at overlapping careers.
Some spitballers during Babe Ruth’s era threw like Ottavino.
I think breaking that particular unwritten rule of baseball gets you the death penalty.
Yea... you’re putting Babe Ruth, someone who barely worked out and didn’t have any vitamin supplements or other drugs to enhance his body and was STILL the best player in the league by a country mile, up against a modern pitcher with access to modern medicine and modern fitness techniques. If Ottavino played in the…
Just imagine Mike Trout playing (in his current form) against pitchers from the period. The Babe was great versus what he was up against. It’s all about era and context. People too often forget about this, which is why we end up with things this ridiculous kerfuffle about ‘Baby, It’s Cold Outside.”
And how would today’s players deal with the lack of modern training, PEDs, nutrition, equipment, travel, accommodations and such? Probably not well. That’s why it’s such a stupid debate.
