That Ford commercial. Wow. “Granada... Mercedes...”

Fully and completely agree. When I went looking for something compact, fun, and efficient, I didn’t even set foot in a Honda dealer to check out any Civic variant. The car looks like it’s straight out of something anime and the Si and Type R are just cranking it all the way up to 10 and then 11 (respectively). I

Moon Motor Car, of course.

A USED GTI for $24K? Lolz. I know that’s the Autobahn version, but if you want the true GTI experience you need to stick with something that’s got the plaid seats. I got my GTI last year at $21K even- that’s the S model with DSG, and yeah, there were a few conditional cash offers in there, but I wouldn’t think it

I know a few of the automakers with such programs have those tier systems. M-B even has it set up for a per-day charge you can upgrade to something nicer; if you usually drive a C300, you can bounce to an Esomething for a road trip. I’m sure you’d be at the mercy of whatever’s on hand, but I do wonder about equipment

I want to see how these subscription services develop. They usually aren’t available nationwide and I wonder about things like options, accessories, colors, and so on- are you just driving what they have to give you, or is there some choice? If you swap out for a weekend, any chance you’ll get that one car back? Do

To quote Douglas Adams, it seems he is saying “Not only am I rich enough to own this car, I am even rich enough not to take it seriously.”

You’re so very correct. When I was in high school, what passed for a pretty darn well equipped car involved slightly nicer fabric on the seats, power windows/locks, A/C, cruise control, and a cassette stereo. If you were in a midsize car, you might see a moonroof and leather too. But that was it. Now even the cheapest

Cute, but man, those fender badges. I get that it’s a GTI, but just grabbing the badges off the Golf GTI just looks out of place on that thing. Putting the letters on the rocker panel stripe would have looked better.

The only person I’ve known who had one was an older lady (early 70s) who was also fairly nutty. You probably know the type- still pretty spunky for their age, but you’re never sure where a conversation with them is going to go because they inhabit a reality that’s about thirty degrees counter-clockwise from our own.

Hey, there must be something to this. I got a 2017 GTI for a great price last fall. They knocked about 25% off of the sticker to get me to take it. Damned German plots!

The funny thing is I can see a use for that- if you tend to sit stuff on the passenger seat and it trips the weight sensor things can get annoying fast. In a small two seater (Miata), it might be pretty easy to run out of space in the trunk.

Because schools are out in the summer. And people take vacations when the kids are out of school. And when Americans vacation, they drive- usually long distances. (Not a critique, a statement of fact- it’s not hard for a summer vacation to involve 1000+ miles of driving). And since the economy is improving, people

“Hmmm... where are we going for vacation this summer? Wait a minute...”

That’s Spaceball One! They’ve gone to plaid!

Every “keyless” vehicle I’ve encountered will not only honk at you if you close the door with the engine running and key outside of the vehicle, but they will also quit running after a certain amount of time.

Asymmetrical tires can be rotated- it’s not common to have asymmetrical tires that are also unidirectional. Directional tires can’t (without unmounting/remounting). Staggered can’t be rotated at all.

As others said, Top Gun with racing. In fact, I bet after the success of Top Gun there were Hollywood execs saying “Let’s do that again, but different. How about with racing?” We get Tom Cruise as the maverick outsider who is successful despite that status overcoming some initial issues to be really good, only to

I’m with Patrick George. You want a hatchback, preferably German, fun, and reliable.

3rd gear: I’d read about this deal elsewhere. That is a really neat building. I hope they can make good use of it.
