Well I normally subscribe to the theory that Pokedex entries are created by young trainers, hence all the crazy hyperbole. But since the Pokedex is sentient this time, who says it can’t tweak things here and there?

It makes sense, they draw from folklore as well as real animals for the pokemon, and in japanese folklore they have the tsukomogami which are objects that have lasted for over a hundred years and come alive. so from that perspective it makes sense.

Yeah but Sudowoodo is actually a rock creature that looks like a tree. Dhelmise is a piece of seaweed on an old ship wheel.

It was by design of the Old Mighty Arceus.

I actually thought it was cool. Reminds me of Sudowoodoo. You look at it and think it is one thing when it is actually just another.
Then again my favorite pokemon is Dunsparce so what do I know.

Ha! I never thought of that. The Pokedex entrees aren’t from any professor but some asshole ghost who’s currently fucking with everyone.

Ghost means there’s a plausible reason for why the inanimate object is moving. As opposed to an ice cream cone suddenly becoming self aware.

This is somehow also correct.

It’s a pile of sand and its name is Palossand.

It isn’t really a “key pokemon”, it’s just a small creature that likes to collect keys.

I’m not seeing Muk on here. Therefor this list is terrible and offensive.

Palossand is the best Pokemon name of all time and anybody who says different is wrong.

Even outside of the 20th anniversary, I think having crazier than normal designs on an island setting makes perfect sense. In the real world, islands are home to crazy evolutionary variants and oddities, which makes the Alolan variations a really clever way to experiment with that idea. Well done, Game Freak.

I’m always pleased to hear when game designers are allowed to be free creatively. It would be cool if each future Pokemon generation is in a different climate. Maybe the next games can take place in Siberia or the Sahara.

You seem to make that sound like a bad thing......

Off-topic: their legs end at the knee? O.o

Until you realize that Pikachu has an Iron Tail.

They neglected to mention the early designs from before the games were even made:

Psssh, you and your fancy color... This is the only real Pikachu!
