Re: Damping
I was going to say the same thing. Though I was also going to point out the “exoskeleton” on that car is complete vaporware, even if it isn’t actually formed out of 3/4" pvc pipe like it appears.
I am going to go out on a limb and say that I really don’t care about sustainability in motorsports. You could argue that the highest levels of motorsports and their associated R&D are trend setters for the entire industry but aside from that, if you compare the overall environmental footprint of motorsports…
Who cares? I am all for stopping climate change but we wont do it by trying to make motorsports green. In the total picture its a drop in the ocean. We need to tackle the big wheels to make an actual change. The millions of trucks with abysmall MPG that are sold every year are much worse in a single day than all…
This topic is a major and continual personal conflict for me as well. On the one hand, I genuinely love racing cars & track days and I love a screaming or roaring combustion engine. I just do, as many do as well.
But my other major passion is the outdoors. National parks, hiking, camping, etc. And these two passions…
I still think they’re going about it wrong. If you want to get people excited about EV racing, do what FE’s doing and sell tickets to an event people can easily get to. I’d rather see them do pack racing in a stadium than romp around a rally raid stage.
Just popped the engine back in this weekend after a long, long period of work and upgrades from front to back.
I don’t have car projects, I have boat projects. Here’s my Goat Island Skiff - I am replacing the gunwales (rot) and then I will paint over what had been finished bright, because it no longer looks nice after seven years of being outdoors.
Getting the old E30 fully refreshed for this years season. Follow along on Instagram or Facebook (Two Canoes Racing):

I’m restoring an Opel Gt. Which winter we’re talking about? ‘16, ‘17, ‘18, ‘19, ‘20 or ‘21?
E36 5.0 swap: new radiator, expansion tank, and coolant lines. Hood vents. Fabricate new center console panel for gauges.
Gen 4 Outback: drop the headliner and investigate a roof leak.
Not a car, but I’m rebuilding my slide in truck camper. I just got the new floor built and resting in it’s place yesterday.
‘Level of performance’ isn’t really the issue - the Audi isn’t faster because they’ve done a better job, it’s faster because it’s not governed by the same rules that govern everybody else. In order to lure in Audi and its “pure electric” car (which is still powered by an ICE “generator”, with a larger fuel tank…
Well I mean people bungee jump, so there is a thing for everyone I guess....
It’s always fun to try an outrageous machine and push it as hard as you can.
I don’t know why the author kept going on about smaller batteries to go with smaller motors, as if they have some kind of association in his mind? I guess big ICEs have big gas tanks to go with them, but it’s a totally different technology. “Less range” is absolutely not going to sell anyone on buying an electric…
Sir, this is jalopnik. Do you expect any of these writers to understand half of what they blog about?
Yeah, I also completely shook my head about the talk about a smaller battery being able to take faster charge. Unless you moved to a more exotic chemistry (which will also would typically give much higher peak output power, which this article is arguing is a bad thing), a smaller battery means slower charging in an…
Electric motors aren’t like car engines. That 1000 hp capable motor isn’t analogous to a 8.0 V10 vs a 2.0 I4 in terms of fuel efficiency and weight. In some ways, the bigger motor is even more efficient as there isn’t much weight penalty for it and it can handle more heat (less wasted energy). It all comes down to the…
